The sky turns dark, a sudden, heavy grey, Wild winds warble their mournful, rising cry, The sea awakes to churn in wild dismay As clouds like angry galleons drift high. The rain spreads in shrill sheets upon the mast, A chilling curtain curled across the light, The sturdy ship struggles hard to hold fast From the fury of the ferocious night. Each wild wave, a mountain capped with foam That crashes down with thunderous command, The sailor yearns to reach his distant home, And feel the solid comfort of the land. But even a tempest sways to an end As peace returns, when wild winds no more bend.
