A
Taste
of
Spring
A tiny, purple crocus pushes up
To crack the surface of a thawing ground
Soon hummingbirds end winter’s fast to sup
With springtime’s royals waiting to be crowned
Be patient if you long to see a rose
This late spring bloomer always steals the show
But in your yard a crop of nectar grows
Enticing warblers eyeing treats below
On winter days we’re tempted to sleep in
But spring’s warm rays say, “Please just go outside”
It’s time for nature’s art show to begin
Blooms’ spectrum colors will not be denied
Soon dancing butterflies in clusters seek
A taste of spring to sate each thirsty beak
