A Single Phone Call
On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
My life was put on hold
Never a choice in bed to stay
I must do as I was told.
Arrive at eight o’clock on the dot
Ready in my assigned chair
Whether I wanted to or not
No choice, I must be there.
The needles were put into my arm
The blood began to flow
With luck, there would be no harm
And come noon, I could go.
Then, one day there came a call
“Your transplant has arrived”
In two places, tears would fall
One had died, but I survived.
With that single call, I knew
From my tether, I’d be free
My years of struggle were now thru
Transformed, I could again be me.
