A Shadow Passing By
A Shadow Passing By
One evening at dusk, I was home rocking,
Awed at the sunset filled window for miles;
Humming an old spiritual melody,
I had not remembered for a long while.
When suddenly, a shadow caught my eye,
Yet no one was in this quieted room.
Nothing could create that ghostly gray shape,
No sun, no light, no music moving loomed.
I chided myself for the chill I felt,
At the same time being strangely at ease,
When I heard the strains of my melody;
My rocking continued in heavn’ly peace.
And I closed my eyes in dappling sunset
A shadow passing by lest I forget.
