A Secret Kept

at the edge of the cliff, she stood determined……. eyes limpid pools of sadness, hair wind swept flawed….? damaged? the swirling enormity below inviting….! nested in her own ignorance never knowing there’s poison in the sting of bees, as dripping honey in their combs. consumed without flame in the heat waves of life an escape is ineluctable to cover a secret kept…! SWISH….!!! the water below parted noisily sloshed up… but the tug was fierce. down, down she slid, into the silver chambers to be garlanded by mermaids!

Heartiest congratulations, Valsa, on sharing the top podium in this contest with a wonderful poem, so elegantly carved with layers of metaphors. "nested in her ignorance, never knowing there is poison in the sting of bees as dripping honey in their combs" so elegantly expressed. The secret has remained a secret though it can be guessed. Sending you blessings of light.

What a struggle your poem reflects, dearest Valsa. There is so much pain looking for relief reflected in your lines. Is there new life in the "silver chambers" as pain is discarded? I hope so. Best wishes for a win with this thought provoking poem. I do love the mermaids in the last lines. Sending you blessings, dear friend!

I enjoy this gripping verse with a shocking surprise at the end. It has a beautiful hope in fantasy. Good luck with the contest.

The sight and the words intertwine seamlessly, a delicate dance of meaning and form. Exquisitely crafted, dear friend. There is much to convey: the imagery captivates, the conclusion resonates, and this remarkable composition has rendered me utterly speechless. I wish you luck with this contest submission.

Dear Valsa, I like how the imagery shifts from the cliff’s edge to the underwater world, almost like moving from harsh reality into myth. The ending especially stands out for it leaves me with both unease and wonder at the same time. Powerful and memorable. Autumn Blessings, Dear Valsa, Daniel

Oh, sad. I do like the thought of the mythical mermaids there to garland her. The sadness of giving up on a life is heart wrenching in a reality where there are no mermaids, but angels and demons, heaven or hell (though the form of 'hell' is debatable to many, my dearly beloved cousin certainly caused hell for us, his survivors, especially his wife and son). God, the giver of life or satan who comes to rob, kill and destroy precious lives. My cousin died of a self-inflicted death, I pray for him always, though people discourage me from doing so, it is all that I can do for him and us. He left us more shattered than he could dream. I hope she now awakes from a nightmare and chooses to live. This is so sad, but you wrote it very well. I just want it to be a bad dream, but sadly, a terrible reality is suicide.

I remember having read about your cousin's rash act in another poem. I feel sorry for all such people. B.J, you could relate to this poem in a personal way as you are yet to recover from the shock of your cousin's untimely death. I am sorry for his wife and children. Thanks a lot dear friend for your empathetic comment.

Is suicide a solution? The poem is marvellous, though. Great imagery.

This poem captures a moment of tension: poised between despair and release, between vulnerability and action. It uses strong imagery and metaphor to evoke the emotional state of the speaker (or subject). The descent into the “silver chambers” suggests a shift, a tipping point — perhaps death, or a mystical transformation. The poem leaves space for the reader to feel the ambiguity and to reflect on what “edge,” “invitation,” “poison,” and “escape” might mean in a larger sense.
