A Sandwich For Sam

Second grade, Sam, going to school. White shirt, navy blue pants,to learn the Bible and the Golden Rule. The children hoist the great American flag at the beginning of each day. The tall trees and church steeple smiled that morning in May. Inside his Spider Man lunch box which he so cherishes, his prize. His peanut butter and jelly sandwich,  which brings stars to his eyes!      (Memories of a Grandmother)                   1/18/2021                    ~3~

Was always happy with what my mother packed for my school lunch, was something different everyday. Don't think I really appreciated what she did back then but do now. Your poem brought back great memories Pangie, Thank you, Emilia : )

I am with you, Tom. I saw kids eyes light up in school so many times. The innocence of children amazes me more than adults showing off their intelligence, ..boneheads)) Pangie

This reminds me of my 2nd grade a LONG time ago. The nostalgia of a different era brings a wistful tear to my eye. Thank you for the wonderful writing, Pangie, and for reminding me of values that I grew up with. Hugs ~ John

No crying, dear John. Like you, I think back to my childhood days. The nuns made fresh roll for us each morning. We sat at lovely tables. I had a swimming pool when in grade school! Dance lessons...great times. There was a God and an America to respect. Stay free! Pangie
