A Ripple of Kindness

What does it cost to be kind? Absolutely nothing! When, out of the goodness of one’s heart, a kind word is spoken or a kind deed is undertaken, the ultimate reward is in the word or deed itself. And, amazingly, there is no limit to the amount of kindness any one person can generate and share with family, friends, or even complete strangers. What is the source of kindness? A loving heart, I believe. The best example is that of Jesus, of course, who willing gave his own life to rescue humanity from the throes of evil. What are the results of kindness? We can never know all the far-reaching effects of a single act of kindness. Like a small pebble thrown into a lake causing a rippling effect that reaches a distant shore, a simple act of kindness continues to reverberate forward, outward, and beyond the hearts and minds of all who are impacted by it.

I really like this Milt! The original title of my haibun was The Cost of Kindness. You are so right - it costs us nothing to be kind and will never bankrupt us or leave us devastated! Congratulations on your win! Love your haiku.

Thanks so much, Edward. Yes, it costs nothing and that is why I can't understand why it is not practiced more widely!

So true Milton and as you say costs nothing but can certainly make someone's day. It doesn't have to be dramatic either just a simple act goes a long way. Tom
