A Rainbow In the Midst of Winter
I was reminiscing upon things that need love to grow,
and my thoughts stumbled upon a marvelous rainbow.
See, they don’t always appear with sun after the rain,
this one time during a snow storm it just did remain.
For it shined eight years ago when my sister died in vain.
She was tragically misguided and lost like a doe in the wood.
She wouldn’t even find true happiness even if she could.
But I’ll tell you what, that New Year’s Eve day in December
after a snow storm I saw a rainbow I’ll always remember.
It was like her soul was telling me she was free as an ember.
You look at me and say, “no way, a rainbow in Winter?”
But at least I know she still had some splendor left in her.
It never rained with grey clouds to hover over her weeping,
and it wasn’t the thunder that kept me from sleeping.
It was the fact I knew she had died that was creeping.
Yes, a calamity I faced when she did not return home,
but she saw a kaleidoscope with her actions unknown.
I am reassured knowing she saw such allure New Year’s Day
when her life was in shambles and she died in disarray.
Now when I see a rainbow I think of her brilliant life on display.
