A Question

Hmmmm You out there, all of you. Have you ever had days where you are VERY productive But when you read those poems you suddenly realise THEY AREN'T EVEN MEDIOCRE THEY ARE JUST.... TERRIBLE ? Do you? I have that today My body is finally healing But it's like my mind can't keep up. A day that tells me: "Boy, if you can't write better than this You'd better find a new profession." You ever have days like this?

Well, now. I usually have those days for my writing which is so sporadic. But I imagine that even the poems that you would not publish would be very good poems, even so.

Thank you, my friend <3 People even seem to like this question of mine, so maybe it's not as bad as I thought it was ;)

Writing is an adventure, and like all adventures, it has its ups and down. Courage, my friend. Even the moon has phases. Why should we be any exception in nature. John

It is, and you are right. Hospitals can have a sort of depressing influence from time to time. But I am over it now. Thank you, John. I very much like the moon simile.

I think that every single day. It's rare that I read stuff after I've written it because I always end up asking myself "what the hell were you trying to convey with this crap?" - as our moods change so do the words in our mind, i guess. Anyway, this is a wonderful little diddy. Very relatable :)

Oh boy Phillip. Seems like I am in good company my friend! You're such a fine poet... :)

Think of it as exercises. Everything you write serves a purpose. A musician spends countless hours practicing etudes to be able to play that wonderful concerto well. I look at writing the same way: I find joy in the process of writing, but not everything I write turns out good. It will still help me to become a better poet, though. Don't be hard on yourself.

Agnes, thank you so much, and you are right. For the same reason I like collaborative work. It helps me to look at my poems with different eyes :)

AH, the old "don't quit your day job" syndrome. When I hit those doldrum days I always save what I wrote and use it to reflect on that day/time. I often holds some secrets I failed to listen to at the time.

That's a good idea. I will do that :)

I can't believe you ever wrote something that was terrible Darren - if it was worth writing it is worth saving and going back to at a later date. I think we all have those days Darren but I tend to walk away from the computer and go back later and review my work and last week for the first time ever I totally ditched a poem I had written for a contest but I may re work it for another time.:-) hugs Jan xx

I think it's more the way I look at my own work, and perhaps more people do, as I see here. Are we ever 100% satisfied with what we produce? I think of all the poems I wrote here, perhaps 5 are to my full liking, and a few of my collaborations are. I keep coming back at them, editing. You too, I see... Thanks Jan :)

It seems I have those days every day. What seems so good at one moment, when returning later I just shake my head and wonder, what was I thinking. Though, I don't see any reason for you to think along those lines, your poetry is always amazing.
