A Psalm In Flight To God
** A Psalm’s Flight to God **
Lord God, my love reaches to
You on an imagined flight —
Leaping
With my wished-for wings.
Soaring!
To the midst of a determined flock
Setting out
To cross hemispheres, homeward;
Heaven-ward
By instincts you instilled…
By way of wind waves
— riding or battling
The air: through the impassioned arias
Of Earth’s orbiting.
Wing tip to wing tip,
Magnificent flocks —
I shall never see —
Beyond any range I can imagine,
Above the never-scaled mountains
of sunlit clouds…
Beauty alive to inner eyes:
Intent on a sight
and flight
In the focus of your glory, Lord…
The route — still but a hint
in my heart —
I guard
And by which I patiently wait,
singing psalms, wondering
If that could be
The rainbow tip of your brush
I see painting sails
On my soul…
