A Promise of a Rose

everybody knows a dead beat dad
someone full of promises things yet to be had
everybody has a loser for a lover
what you see in them we have yet to discover
everybodys been put up and suddenly let down
and still you hold on to that imaginary clown
everybody feels what you felt and left
and you defend that dead beat unto the last breath
always believing the promise of the rose
is not just believing but knowing one knows
to some the promise of the rose is better than the rose

this reminds me of that song "I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey, the more I get of you the stranger it feels" (you can say that again) your english rose has something for you...

Very insightful poem, John. I especially like the last line. Promises reflect our dreams and hopes. They are far better than reality. Yes, we've all experienced lost loves, but we have to free ourselves of these "imaginary clowns" and find a way to overcome obstacles. Excellent poem!! Love, Carolyn

Smile ˜ In Re Unto Your Question John? ˜ This Answer I Do Not Know Although At The Same Time Tis Not Much Of A Concern Of Mine To Know Either. ˜ But Amid Little I Do Know; All That I Need Know For Now; There Seems To Be A Constant Need For Drama In This Flesh, Life & Place; A Continuum That Carries Yet, Tis Not This Need Within The Spirit Of Those Whom Have Been Forevermore Loosed From These Chains In Vain Things ˜ I Hope That Brought A Bit Of Clarity Into The Mix * Thanks For Passing By, Love, John!:) ˜

yES the promise can fulfill one's heart more than a rose itself cos a promise of a rose carries no thorns... So beautifully penned John..Charma

Its about a lot. Many excuses, many lies, some withnothing at all. And some with enough cold blooded disreguard to keep making promises
