A Poor Family's Christmas

There were no presents wrapped there under the Christmas tree, No ornaments there hanging, no lights at all to see. No stockings on the chimney, no Christmas cards received; It surely was an odd thing that could hardly be believed. The boy was pretty ragged, the girl looked sickly, too, And Mom and Dad were shivering with lips there turning blue. There had been no work for Daddy, and the welfare check was late, So Christmas for this family seemed such an awful fate. They knelt there by the bedside and prayed to God above And thanked Him for the Savior and for His precious love. They realized His baby was poor when He was born, And there was just a stable for Him to lay that morn. So they thanked God in heaven they had a better place And by faith He had saved them and kept them by His grace. Then suddenly a motor was heard outside the door, And Mom and Dad came walking across the barren floor. They looked out of the window and saw a plain-dressed man, And wondered how he found them and what must be his plan. They saw him as he reached there upon the empty seat, Pulled out some things to bring them, all wrapped so nice and neat. Some wood for in the fireplace; he started it aglow, And soon each one was warmer as to it they did go. He brought a turkey dinner, new clothes for them to wear, And they stood there in wonder how much someone could care. “I don’t know why I came here,” he sheepishly explained, “It seems I was directed to come to your domain. I had prepared these items for someone in dire need; It seems that God in heaven was there to guide and lead. I just got up this morning and said a little prayer That God would show the people I needed to help there.” The family thanked the stranger and sent him on his way With tears and praise to heaven for meeting him that day. Yes, that is just what Christmas is really all about: To give without a question and never any doubt. You will receive a blessing for willing sacrifice, And God above will bless you with an abundant life.
