A Pocketful of Sound
A pocket-sized companion, light and small,
The transistor radio, answering freedom's call.
A plastic casing, sometimes bright and bold,
A world of sound, a story to unfold.
A little dial, you'd turn with gentle grace,
Searching for signals in the airy space.
A crackling whisper then a station clear,
Bringing the music banishing all fear.
A single speaker, tinny but so bright,
Filling the air with melodies and light.
Pop songs and news reports, a baseball game's play,
Connecting listeners at the close of day.
On picnics spread or held up to the ear,
A personal soundtrack, banishing all drear.
A source of comfort, information's stream,
Living and breathing a vibrant sonic dream.
No tangled wires, no need for bulky plug,
Just batteries inside, a comforting little hug
Of portable sound wherever you might roam,
A constant presence feeling like sweet home.
Now smartphones stream with clarity untold,
The transistor's charm, a memory to hold.
Yet in its simplicity, a magic lay,
Connecting people in a fundamental way.
So let us cherish this now vintage piece,
That brought the world's sounds offering sweet release.
The poignant transistor, n its humble might,
A beacon of audio shining ever bright in memory's light.
