A Lucky Man

The other night while looking up at the stars A satellite passed through the nighttime sky We both laid quietly on our backs Trying not to blink an eye No artificial lights from nearby cities To distort our perfect view I love laying out here in the open air Sleeping next to you We left our troubles back home in the city Hiking out here for hours on end I consider myself a lucky man Being married to my best friend We saw a shooting star And each made a private wish Mine was one that instantly came true When you shared with me a kiss The nighttime air was turning cold But inside the sleeping bag it was getting hot As gazing at stars became a second priority To a passion that has never stopped I love our friends and our social life Fine dining and taking in a play But the way we spent the last twenty-four hours To me, is a perfect day Soon we will return to the city And a routine that has become mundane But I will survive dreaming about the time When we both can do this again
