A Love Letter To Fall

Oh crisp breath to welcome me anew Is there any fresher than you? Dressed in fire and gold, The most intense beauty to behold. But that doesn’t begin to touch why I answer your call, There is so much more I must remember I love about fall. Oh decay and promise of summer’s death At breaking day and frosted breath. The cool that invites me warm a cup of cider, And chases away insect and arachnid, fly and spider. Finding myself donning a light jacket to cover my skin, Despite not needing it: I have in my chest a heater built in. Oh memory, full of clips I hold dear, full of you, Of nights where fire chased away the blackness-blue, Of siblings laughing enjoying their carving, Of eating our fill and be far from starving. My dear, for so many reasons I hold you closely, And I tried to tell them to you…mostly. I admire your beauty of cardinal and pumpkin as it fills my eye And enjoy your coolness as summer into winter does die. I wrap myself in you to give me hope when I hit rock bottom, And breathe in your light and loveliness. My most precious Autumn.
