A Lonely Man

He lives on his own Far away from life In a sheltered glen Since he lost his wife Nothing can replace The previous years that he had It was timeless and loving He now lives alone and sad Surrounded by emptiness Just like his heart His family is now nature Life at sixty, his new start In a run down bothy On the Cairngorms, above Aviemore The Scottish countryside consoles him His heart now a lonely sore Everyday when he awakes He thinks of his dear wife Out of the window he looks Out there is his life He lives of the land The best he can Sometimes he heads into town A lost looking man The years have passed by He still lives on his own His loss finally accepted Into his lonliness, he has grown http://www.thehighlanderspoems.com/loss-2.php

Sometimes other people's poems strike a chord that relates to the reader, or readers. I'm glad you're liking my humble poems Olive, as I sure love reading yours, and commenting, James :)

A very moving write, James. I hate it when seniors have to live alone. And I sure have missed reading your work. This heads to my favorites before I sign off to nurse my injury. Much love, Carolyn

A wise , lonely man. He did not leave his memories and try to find a new life. He has probably found a quiet satisfaction in this place where he was happy. Thank you for your comments. They mean so much to me. Love, Joyce

What a sad poem, James. Doubtless a beautiful poem. I am wondering, however, why did you post it on the happy occasion of Christmas and New Year. In my experience happy occasions make some people more sad. Is this the reason? Cheer up! Thanks for your encouraging comments on my poem 'Do not Knock being featured this week. God Bless you. Happy New Year! May 2010 bring happiness, health and love in your life and make your pen even stronger. -Mohammad Yamin

So very sad, James. It's hard enough being lonely and young but to be old and lonely must be really tough. Yet, I know memories are priceless and can possibly see us through the length of our days. Great write, as usual, Highlander! Peace and love, Audrey

Let me brush a tear away, dear heart, I know this pain, you write so well for us, you are not alone in this sadness but you do have something more valuable than gold, you have words and the ability to put them to paper, if you have not read my poem already called, Into the Future, it speaks, of the same loneliness..... and thanks so much for your kind comments on my poem, the kiss...

James what a wonderful write this is...so filled with that "lost" feeling you have captured with your imagery. Loss of a loved one is never easy. The lifelong love you have described here is a beautiful thing that many wish to acquire but won't. Thanks so much for sharing this sensational write and for taking the time to read my works. Also, many thanks for your always kind comments and words of encouragement. All is much appreciated! Have a glorious day~Mary

I enjoyed this piece. It's very realistic and the rhyme flow is smooth. I love the simplicity, the common language, and the mellow vocabulary. Nice job. Thanks for the congrats on my featured write. Milt

I suppose we come into this life alone, go out alone. At least this is one theory. But being alone within reality is a bummer, a bummer we have to get used to or perish. Here's wishing this soul and all souls a very Happy New Year. Love, daver

James, this one broke my heart. He is like the swan, dove, and other birds and animals that mate for life. You have the emotion here my friend. If it is true there are many lonely women out there that would love companionship. Keep the creative pen flowing for you fill my heart to overflowing. Sara
