A Lonely Cloud

"I wandered lonely as a cloud" William Wordsworth "i wandered lonely as a cloud" dark and dreary i was not proud i lingered on the edge of day a darkened rift i chose to stay i befell my pain in salted tears lost within my stolen years in crimson ink i've cried these drops flooding thoughts of memories's crops i hid your sun in shadow's cast made you see my saddened past left you breathless beneath mind's rage made you wish to turn the page i hung about a chill of wind that time itself could not rescind i wander still a lonely cloud through the darkness of death's own shroud i shed my tears in salted rain as i wallow within this pain January 29, 2020

I don’t know why but you always remind me of Sally Kellerman’s performance in the movie, “Back to School, “ where the professor’s soft tone and luscious poetry reading moves Rodney Dangerfield’s character to daydream and yell, “yes!” Such loveliness! Congrats, Sandra!

You did a great job from the inspirational quote. This flows really well and carries the weight of a lonely cloud.

Sandy, I also did not read his poem until after I wrote mine (I hesitate to do that so it won't affect my write) and expected it, as Vijay alluded, to be melancholy but it was totally opposite of that. As a matter of fact, I felt the poem wasn't that special at all though I do love the inspiration of the line - Wordsworth wrote far better poems. Too often, I feel, a name precedes accomplishment.

I wasn’t too thrilled with his poem either. It was upbeat not melancholy just nothing spectacular... :). We are on the same page with that

Love it - the gal who thought she could write no meter has written this in iambic meter and done a wonderful inspiration with the prompt.

Thank you so much Craig..my intention was to write free verse but it just fell as rhyme early on and just came rather quickly... coming from you this is a huge compliment...i guess your challenging contests helped my meter come out of hiding because i had no clue thus was falling in meter....it just went in it's own direction... hugs

A poem that begins with your title line has to be melancholy as Wordsworth's was. Very apt for the contest theme Sandy--yet, quite reflective of real life. Sad but quite beautifully written.

Thank you so much Vijay...and Craig... perhaps i need to read his poem (i never have) and see what it's all about...i saw the list of choices for the contest and picked this one knowing my muse would take it on a somber path, though not exactly where i thought she would go with it... hugs :)

Vijay, his poem is not sad at all, it is totally uplifting - not to say that one might expect sadness given the title but he did not take it there and any poet, as Sandy did, may take it where their muse leads them as she has done.

Loved Wordsworths original and I love this one Well written Sandra, good luck in the contest. Tom. PS, on my page there's a pic of me wearing a three corned hat in, you've guessed, Wordsworths house at Cockermouth in the Lake District, bit of trivia for you lol.

I will have to come check the photo out...and perhaps read his poem...i don't believe i have ever seen his and certainly didn't want to before writing because i wanted to take the title on my own course... i will stop over shortly... thanks Tom... hugs

Simply a dazzling entry for the contest, Sandra. It was exciting for me to read it to see what you'd come up with next. Good luck with it! Cheers, Gershon

Thank you so much Gershon...i thought of you with the one verse "left you breathless beneath mind's rage made you wish to turn the page" because i know how my dark poetry gets to you sometimes... hugs

Here is hoping the sun shines brightly and brings some light to this little cloud allowing it to float happily and freely on a sky of brilliant blue. This was beautiful in its sadness Sandy. Best wishes in the contest
