This is a true story. I was and am a very lucky man...
A kindly man named Meyer*
On poor folks would take a flyer
He took me in one wintry midnight
Knowing naught but my sorry plight
I couldn't yet pay him; I'd just started to work
He told me, "Don't worry. Your money's a perk.
I can tell that you're honest and straight,
and that soon you'll pay me back first-rate."
"What's more,' he said. "There'll come a day
When you'll do the same for another who can't pay."
I'd swear he was a prophet, for his words came true
A mere four years later, Thanksgiving time, 1992
This kindly man named Meyer
Who on poor folks took a flyer
Rescued me one night from a snowy grave
And taught me forever how angels behave
