One of my favorite past-times is trout fishing. I usually fish at the same few spots in the Musconectcong River in New Jersey. For years I have passed this old cape cod style house, and every time I passed it I saw an elderly couple sitting on the porch. One day I passed by and I saw just the elderly woman sitting there alone. I knew by the expression on her face that her husband was no longer with us. I wave to her every time I pass by and she smiles and waves back. She must know that I had realized that her husband had passed because she recognizes me every time I pass by and she always points to the empty rocking chair. God Bless her...She is well in her upper 80's
As I wandered down the street today
I passed an old lady and I heard her say
She mumbled, I love you, but no one was there
Just an old wooden cane and an old rocking chair
The chair started rocking as I strolled on by
She kept mumbling, I love you, and she started to cry
So I smiled at her and said, I hope you don't mind
She said, Thank you, my dear. You are so very kind
So I hugged her goodbye as tears fell from her chin
I asked, why are you crying, She said, You remind me of him
