A Glorious Day

I’m sitting outside in the sun. The foliage change has begun; So the leaves, gold and brown, Have been fluttering down And the squirrels are out on the run. Though I filled up the feeder with seed, Local birds haven’t yet taken heed, But the longer I sit One will get wind of it And the rest will come flocking to feed. Such a glorious day in the fall Should be greeted and welcomed by all, For they’re precious and few And we haven’t a clue When the Reaper may give us a call.

Autumn is, after Spring, my favorite season. But this year the colorful foliage is late and Ida's winds a few weeks ago stripped most of them off. There are still flowers blooming, like roses and rhododendrons and other flowers associated with spring. Must hve something to do with climate change, yes? / Maurice

Loved this Ilene. ‘Our’ birds eat better than we do, they cost us a small fortune but we get so much enjoyment from them. With fat balls and hanging nuts, walking can be tricky so I stay home and watch the birds. I don’t think we get Reapers, perhaps they want different seeds. Terry

As COVID-19 is impacting the animal world, such scenes may be increasingly rare in the future, so enjoy them whilst you can as there is no rest in sight for the Grim Reaper! Aloha!

Tell that Reaper fellow to take a hike, Ilene. Your poem is too rich in optimistic images to deal with him right now.
