A Gift of Love

She came one day out of the blue A cockatiel in search of love And filled our life with utmost bliss The perfect gift from far above! But then one day an ill wind blew He called her back to pastures new. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Bitesize no 67 Poetry Contest Sponsored by Line Gauthier Placed 1st © 21st June 2023

Thank you, Joanna. I could write a book about this adorable pet! Doing it justice in a mere 6 lines proved to be quite a challenge! ~ Regards // paul

Pets are more than just 'pets' aren't they? They become part of our lives and part of us. They mean so much to us; something which comes across in your gentle and heartfelt poem Paul.. Life is a prize that is given but then taken back. I bet there was a big empty space when Lucky died. Cheers - Gary

A gift for a time…reminds me of Mary Poppins…she was brought by the wind and left in similar fashion, when no longer needed.

[Sorry, forgot to reply to this yesterday!] Yes, there is a similarity between "Lucky" and Mary Poppins. We've had numerous lovely/loving pets, but none can surpass her. ~Regards // paul

These lines, Paul, have given me great pleasure! Your poetry is both delicate and serene, and as one reads further, your words are felt in the heart. It is truly a splendid work of art.

I saw your photo and thought I would comment, but I fell and found myself in what we call the hospital. After two days of tests (at least they are good at that) I was roughly discharged. Still, I have a little pain and too large effects of antibiotics. Love lost is a great theme. I like the short poem. Best of luck.

I am truly sorry about your mishap, Victor. I'm afraid the standard of our main hospital has gone downhill these past ten years, and the promise of upgrading the older ones was just a cheap gimmick. I hope aches & pains will soon leave you in peace. Best regards // paul

Thank you, Ilene. We've had (and still have) many pets in our family, but "Lucky" was very special because SHE found US. Regards // paul

It certainly was a most lucky gift (in fact we called her Lucky); her passing away left a big void in out life. Thank you for reading and commenting, Darlene. // paul
