A Fortune Cookie

Tonight my sweetheart shook his head As fortune cookie note was read A baffled look; his countenance "How do I take this? Makes no sense!" He read it out to understand, that little slip held in his hand... "You're as intelligent as you're good looking..." He paused a second, I could tell that phrase was really cooking Then glibly, in his satire, he gave that slip a flip He rephrased the cookie's fortune, A misfortune quip... "That could mean I'm ugly, As Ugly as I'm dumb!" He threw the cookie in the trash And swept away the crumbs I found the slip of paper That message was quite grand I'm thinking he's the smartest guy In all the blessed Land! And so the little fortune Has grasped me in an awe To me, he is the handsomest Dear man, I ever saw!

Aw, thank you Gershon, I am quite blessed to be coupled with my dear husband :) he's a keeper, that's for sure! After almost 46 years of marriage and he's still smart, handsome, and can be so hilariously funny with his dry sense of humor! :)

Whether he is handsome or not matters so less. If you think that your husband is handsome, he is. Beauty is very much in the eyes of the beholder. A lovely poem, dear BJ. Mischievous too.

Thank you Valsa, I think he has stellar good looks, I mean, after nearly 46 years of marriage, I still love to look at him! He is smart too, AND a real smarty pants! He made me laugh so hard with that, gosh, he's funny too, and can't help but aMuse me. I had to write about his silly take on that fortune cookie. Lol, oh Anna, that's so funny, my poem almost made you spit, that's a high compliment if ever there was one :D I find my husband's dry sense of humor really funny, and he really truly is handsome too! He's also highly intelligent, as well as a real smarty pants! I'm glad you liked this poem :)

Haha, no! Beauty is only skin deep, and beautiful people can be as smart or maybe not so much just as much as somebody without stellar looks (as far as others may see them...) but have the most beautiful heart in the universe, and the brains to boot! Anyhow, I guess sometimes smart, not so smart, whatever...that's just the way the cookie crumbles!!

this is just adorable!! If it was for MY husband, I think I'd toss it. I should not be down on him. but he does not always act too smart and his looks left him a long time ago.

My poor guy got in a bad industrial accident and I fear there was cognitive damage. He had hoped to work into his 70s. But life is very uncertain right now

That is so true Daniel, and when I behold my sweetheart, I see nothing less than beauty in him :) Thank you for the Mother's Day wish, I have a lot of celebrating with all my kids, it is another fun day of family getting together :)

They are fun to crack open and read the fortunes. They are sort of a light round cookie that is folded over, baked, and they have little fortune messages tucked into the folded cookie. They are fun! Thank you for dropping by Anne :) Hugs to you as well <3
