As the TV screen comes alive, Screeching with news of death, In natural calamities and road accidents Of war on Ukraine that kills and maims thousands Of carnage and bloodshed, Of gory tales of rape and molestation Of manhandling and suicide Of battered childhood and teary eyed women Of politicians’ pandemonium open n’ outrageous Their nasty tirade and mudslinging And similar scenes of sickening magnitude, My hands grope for the ‘remote’. The channels swing past in lightning speed From frenzied gyrations of lovers of celluloid To serials lengthening into infinity Of love betrayed, tears shed Bonds snapped, hearts shattered Until at last my fingers settle On the wonders of the Animal Planet Where the beasts roam free and fearless Where there is no greed to hoard Where no one wears a mask And everything ruled by sheer survival instinct!

A beautiful poem dear friend Valsa! Civilization has expanded even more when we are about to overlook who we genuinely are butchers or real heroes?

With modern media conflicts and wars come in to our homes via television, sometimes it just gets too much and you have to switch over or just turn off Tom

Most can relate to the message of your poem, Valsa. Find your peaceful paradise and stay there--as it seems you have found in Animal Planet.

Then again there’s the tenderness ~ of a mother feeding her newborn ~ of lovers holding hands ~ of breath oozing gratitude ~ of childlike prayers murmured ~ of agendaless exuberance, life in motion ~ which does not feature in the news. Let me not ramble on, enjoyed your write Valsa, I agree, Animal Planet is better than the news we are shown.

Everyone calls me a fool. I rarely watch the news. I know what to expect and I know there is news that is never reported. I like the series on Planet Earth and other like it but if I find a good serial, I'll follow it to the end.

Dear Valsa, watching the news and the devastation it has thrust upon innocent people is heart~ wrenching; bringing us in helpless distress~we are fortunate to be able to change the channel which I think is for the best. A great message in your poetic message. :)Paulette
