A Favorite Soda

Diet Coke, icy cold, has fame.
Spiked with cherry or lime, it’s tame,
I buy the brand Shasta
because my drink hasta
use Splenda, not bad aspartame.

Written 10/23/12 by Andrea Dietrich
(I know there is nothing healthful about
a Coke, but I just love carbonation!)

lol, love this one! Thanks, my friend - I don't usually check out Soup emails - have entered 'cherry blossom'. With my new shifts, I doubt if I'll get round to Soup until Wednesday evening - will check out your latest then : )

Andrea, very cool poem. I have an "icebox" (dates me) full of Diet Coke left from my son's last visit. You asked about Day of the Dead poem. The Mass was celebrated in the cemetery on Amelia Island, where I live. I love "Dia de Los Muertos" ceremonies. We have to honor our dead as well as the living. Nola

Love the poem, Andrea. All those artificial sweeteners eventually end up being called "dangerous" by the FDA, so I occasionally have a Sunkist Orange or other soda with carbonation and sugar, but no caffeine. Congratulations on your win! Love, Carolyn

My brother was addicted to Diet Pepsi. I blame it for ruining his kidneys. Hope your Splenda is safe. But your poem is great, could just as easily been no. one.Love, Joyce

Hate to admit it, but besides coffee....Diet Coke/Pepsi (or Shasta too!) is one of my bad habits!!!! (But a girl does have to have one or two vises....don't smoke/do drugs/drink/..... I always laugh at people who are fussy about their colas...either coke or pepsi? Makes no difference to me!! (Oh....I see Mt Shasta every day where I live....maybe that's why I like it!!

:-) Me Likey much. I gave up bad stuff for a year and a half, including soda. I switched to carbonated water with 4 tbsp of fruit juice for a wee bit of flavour. I was on a health kick back then. Now, not so much. loved the shasta/hasta... now, I feel thirsty (off to the kitchen to drink tap water I put in the fridge because I haven't done my dang grocery shopping yet!!! Suddenly craving Dr. Pepper! AWK)

Something is wrong. My wife said she didn't get an e-mail she was expecting. Am going to check up on it with charter. I hear diet drinks are supposed to be bad for you. I don't like diet anything. Guess I've done too much dieting in my live. Love, daver

:) Big smiles here, Andrea and awesome use of rhyme. I haven't seen the Shasta brand lately -- still on V-8 and an occasional orange soda or glass of Merlot when dining out. Francine will love this witty, uptempo poem! Love, carolyn

From Francine's comment below it seems you have drunk it all instead of entering it in the contest.
