A Dozen Roses
A Dozen Roses
I courted you with roses
A dozen from the start
Though there were other suitors
I knew what’s in my heart
You knew your love was out there
You prayed a sign impart
And with that dozen roses
I knew I’d won your heart
Next year and all years after
A dozen roses came
To celebrate our lover’s pact
And how it would remain
But today I lie immobile
Confined to bed and rest
Unable to pick up the flowers
But I won’t fail the test
I’ll have our daughter bring them
And place them in my hands
I’ll present them to you darling
For I am still your man
I know you’ll beam with happiness
And stay here by my side
And with your head upon my chest
I’ll hold you as you cried
But me; I will be smiling
For the love that we both feel
And anyone with half a heart
Will know our love is real
