A Close Encounter
Self-awareness on a pedestal,
stalled by a stormy day,
placed there by providence
—by poet
A Close Encounter
car window reflected a close encounter.
iridescent feathers folded; downpour.
in blue cape, he hides his eyes, blue-green.
we squeak past the blue trash can, he’s atop.
so close, my husband doesn’t see him there,
but the passenger, me, “Look a peacock!”
was on my way to get my procedure.
a sign, perhaps; hope that I’d be okay.
had harried weekend, ups and downs, distract.
i thanked the Lord, smiled, a calming effect.
