A Canvass Of Blue

A canvass of blue
suddenly thinking of you...
Salty nights spent alone
          nowhere to go,
                no one to run to...
Elastic voyages stretched forever
  you are always gone
   Even the lanterns
couldn't hold it until noon.

           Lonely by the seaside,
                         always hoping
         for your return.
Eyes fatigued, I skim the surface
              no ship in sight
just a quiet solitary night,
          Where are you ?

The sea can make lonely seem lonelier, when there is no ship in sight. Heartbreaking. Wish I could've seen the painting, it's gone. Congratulations on POTW Mystic Rose Rose! Have a nice long weekend-MLK day mañana!

Exceptional emotional imagery, Mystic. Are you familiar with 'widow walks' as were frequently on the roof of houses of fishermen? There are many in New England where wives would pace, looking to sea with concern for their husbands return. Bad storms and missed return dates, I can imagine their fear pulse. That's where your emotive words took me and I enjoyed going on the emotional trip.

This feels very genuine and quietly sad. The spacing and ocean imagery make the waiting feel real, and the ending lands softly but effectively. Well done, Mystic.
