A Birthday Message (For Od)

The little acorn has become a tree Magnificient in the storm It's xylem hard ... a strong heart shelters me The little drip a great river, meets the sea Washes the soil from my farm To the delta of its glee, I dream free The empty hands, the broken nest, the pea In the nose, my dazed alarm The little bird has flown away from me And now squinting at the sky, only see The diamond in its arm And the wings circling it, brightened by glee On this your birthday, I fall to my knee Praying you won't come to harm As you fly away, son, forgetting me.

It must be hard watching your son leave, David, but that is the way of life. Children eventually venture out into the world to build new lives, but there is no way your son will forget such a loving father. Such a moving poem, David. Have a wonderful weekend! I'll be heading to Disney World to meet friends and enjoy the theme park. Love, Carolyn
