Notes About The Poem

At the protest this week an SUV pulled up, stopped next to me, and the window rolled down. A middle-aged overweight man said, "You should see a psychiatrist, but only a Republican one." Then he laughed as they drove off. I was left wondering what's next. Will Trump's Gestapo use some kind of mental test to put opponents away at will? These would-be storm troopers will not stop us from protesting the policies we vehemently disagree with.

This is the first of 11 limericks I intend to post over the next 11 days about D.T. (Dick Tator). Thanks to Lin Lane for sharing some ideas and to Heather Cox Richardson for her amazing daily letter. BTW, the men in the white coats will take D.T. away if people just comprehend his obvious mental illness. Hopefully, that will happen before he destroys all that we hold dear. Smiles!!!

In front of our eyes

What makes him mad and want to slay
When I pan Dick Tator’s mean play?
Will it be correct
If next I expect
They’re coming to take me away?

Duke, The right of due process and numerous other protections afford us citizens by our constitution are sacred and as a veteran I swore an obligation to defend. I don't agree that those protections extend to anyone who has broken our laws by being here illegally. I don't share your fears of a perceived take over of this country by DJT militarily. The increase in spending to remove those who don't belong here, is the result of an open border policy. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me!

Mark…I understand what you are saying and why. However, does the opinion you express uphold the constitution? Do undocumented immigrants have constitutional rights? AI says, “Yes. The Constitution guarantees due process rights to all "persons," not just citizens. This means non-citizens, including undocumented immigrants, are entitled to fair treatment under the law.” I suggest you might want to consult a constitutional scholar on this matter, but we often see things the way we want rather than what they are. I know how that feels. Smiles and thank you for your service!!

Have you been knighted, Duke? Everyone has an opinion. You always manage to respond with tact, sometimes even when it's not deserved. Thanks for the mention, but it's so easy to find Limericks to write when the excuse for a President gives us so many reasons for writing them. I look forward to reading more from you, and about your part in the demonstrations.

Lin, you are very kind. Yes, there is so much to write about when the stakes include our government itself and its relationship to us all. There will two demonstrations in the upcoming week. One on Saturday and another on Monday. If I can make it, I'll post pictures.

Sir Duke, your right to protest in a civil and none violent manner is your gift as a citizen of America, and I fully support. So removal of criminal undocumented people out of the country, that's troubling to you? Have you experienced numerous strange people from other countries take up residence in your home and you would be okay with that situation? How about your neighborhood being so crime-ridden that you are fearful to leave your home, you okay with that? Is it okay when it affects others?

Mark, thanks for being the first to comment on this limerick, and there will be more to come. I am actually in favor of removal of criminal undocumented people. However, I do think there is a right way to go about it. The right way means following a legal process that includes the judiciary. It's never easy or cheap to follow established practice and law, but doing so provides protections for everyone involved including the "strange" people around us. Let me ask you a question. Is it possible the huge increase in funding for the Department of Homeland Security and use of the military in cities is part of a larger agenda that goes beyond immigration enforcement? This is a troubling matter for some of us who remember what occurred in other countries and times. BTW, I appreciate that you are taking the time to discuss this issue and ask about what I am thinking. Smiles, of course.
