-flag-

Daily Poetry #54, March 23, 2017 Word: Flag Even if it’s nonsensical, full of lies, We are all born with flags to wave. Wave your colours high and shout, Though there’s truly nothing to save. The purest white will be stained with blood, And the strongest soul will be broken. Only the rich can have opinions here, The poor will be outspoken. Rush to war without even thinking, Don’t mind the many who will die. As long as the flag still waves, Life and eyes will pass the dead by. Breath in the chemicals, run through the smoke, Take the bullets as they come at you. As a soldier, we’ll send you off to the nonsense, For this is what you were born to do. And when you come back to this proud place, We’ll treat you like the dirt you walk on. As long as the public sees you holding our flag, Who even cares if you’re gone? Even if it’s nonsensical, full of lies, We are born with stripes and stars on our backs. Wave your colours high and shout, Ignore everything this country lacks.
