- Haiku X 47 - Is Life Just a Door -

The end of the road When a man grows old and gray Picture of life cracks End of dignity No bright lights in the tunnel Tower at world's end When life's sun goes down Thoughts on life diversity Stand fast when it storms 20.02.2015 A-L Andresen :) Copyright © All Rights Reserved

Sad...we often feel that sun go down, but inside we know that in truth...it's just rising. Souls are eternal and simply migrate to their next task.

Very powerful pen, Anne- Lise! Your haiku suit is very heart-felt and full of so much caring, my dearest friend. I know so many of the elderly don't receive the proper care anywhere that they're entitled to. Some stories are so very sad it breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes just to hear about them. I wish you a very lovely day! Truly golden pen! A 7+ from me! In his light! God bless!:) Love n' hugs! xxx D.

A beautiful Haiku Anne Lise. Though i do not think that dignity must come to an end "when life's sun goes down." I believe that dignity lives within a persons soul and cannot be affected by the outside world. A poem by Dylan Thomas comes to mind, "Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rage at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light." This is so poignant. Life should not be surrendered meekly that is the true loss of dignity. love Shane xxx

Dearest Anne-Lise I am sorry for your anguish, it is so hard to be able to do what you have done. The wish to keep ones parents with you when they become so dependant is something that most people cannot achieve. I understand how difficult it must be for you, I can see it in your words. Please take care of yourself my friend. All my love Shane xxx

- Dear Shane - Yes, you're right - (I have worked as a nurse for 36 years) - However, it is very much about: "time" - money - care - I have seen this for many years, and it's not just my father .... . there are those who have it much worse than he has - Politics and responsibilities ..... - I have "nursed" my father for 4 years now, I'm tired ...... so tired - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

I do understand what you are saying. I spent a lot of time at the nursing home my grandmother was in, I used to chat with many of of the residents and help out where i could. My wife is also a nurse who does home care respite nursing mostly with the elderly. It is a hard job when you grow fond of people knowing full well that the next time you go to see them they may no longer be alive. love Shane xxx

- Sick and old people can not stand the storm alone ..... it is not "beautiful" or dignity ... it becomes a "struggle" to survive from day to day .............. from hour to hour - Thanks for nice visit and lovely comments, Shane - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Your writes aren't even thought provoking.....they are just down-right the TRUTH ! Dang......one of the classes in school should teach the progression of age...heck, they prepare us for college; for jobs....dang, even sex education........you mean they can't squeeeeeeze a little ol' man course in there...or two...hehehe ! Great write Anna Lise. Have a blessed week.........much love, james

- I mean, even if you are sick, helpless and old, all people have rights in life - even if it is the last journey of life - dignity! - Do not be left lonely with diapers - be left in the their own feces to it suits someone come to help them in the toilet ...... it is one example .... but much more, James - // Anne-Lise :)

Getting old can't just be pushed under the carpet! The most we can do is face up to it. This is what you have done with this string of haiku. Hopefully we'll get there with dignity:) hugs /x/ paul

Oh Anne lise that is so so heartbreaking -my heart goes out to you and to him :-( There are so many lessons they could learn regarding the care of the elderly - when she had a fall in 2009 and was 3 months in hospital I got a call to say they wanted to send my mum home in a taxi - she was aged 86 with a brain injury - it beggars belief they can do these things:-( Hugs jan xx
