UNLOVED Premiere Contest Winner

The stinging is particularly painful today,
Needles of sharp cold burning blood stab and sear my heart
The jabbing jagged thousand tiny holes stay
And begin again tomorrow to flay each part.

                                Rejection is a drowning drunk
Gasping with each mouthful of pride
Another trophy now lies lifeless and sunk
                             Another screaming day that died.

For all the steaming dreaming part
I played in the capture of my choice
Flat failure is the guide of my loveless dart
Choking silence is my only voice.

Nailed it! Dialing into Plath with a piece like this makes me question your sanity….just kidding. Plath was a nut and this was a challenging contest. Tom made the best choice to top this challenge - Congrats on your trophy win, Janine. Tom is a serious writer - extremely knowledgeable about poetry but always wants it to be fun. Congrats again!!!

Thank you mark for your congrats and i am glad you liked my poem. I shall take Tom up on expanding when the 'mood' comes over me again, ha ha. I like to write on many things but most of the time i just turn on and tune in and magic happens. Thankyou to you and to Tom. xxjanine

Thx Mark. This was the only poem where I actually heard "Plath's voice." Alot of allusions to and references to her, but not necessarily the voice. I really would like to see Janine expand on this one some more. See where it might lead.

Thank you christina. I will admit to you I have never read a Plath Poem and only heard Poe's The Raven on a radio programme once. I just googled her and him and read about them and put myself in the 'mood'. I am so glad it turned out alright. love and peace my friend xxxx

hey, congrats on your first place win in this very difficult contest. you nailed the self-loathing and fixation on death that Plath exuded, as well as some of her nonsensical word choices, but with just the right touch of the macabre.

Good evening dear Janine. I read this several times. It is so well written and well crafted. So deep, profound, expressive. Great rhyming and poetic lines,’ And begin again tomorrow to flay each part’ ‘ ‘ choking silence is my only voice’. You did a great job constructing this so well done! Really impressed. Thank you for sharing. Keep warm - hope you didn’t get too much snow! Hugs and smiles my friend xx:):)

Hello Christina, thank you for your encouraging comments of Unloved. I entered the Poe with the style of Plath competition, which was hard as i have discalculus and trying to construct is extremely difficult for me, most times never acheiving it fully, but in this case i thought of Poe and Plath and sat in silence and then it came. i sometimes have the feeling i have 'lived' the emotion of a poem i write, as with this one when each time i stopped i thought of each poet and their work and 'felt' the angst and then carried on. I am trying to keep warm, ha ha, lots of jumpers, leggings under trousers, fluffy inner socks and gloves and neck warmer snood under my hood. Feel like a bigfoot when i go out. Its only 3 degrees here and falling to -3 tonight. ice everywhere. You keep well too and warm and thank you again, if i dont get chance, merry christmas christina, your name has love in it. xx love and peace xx janine

Hello my friend, thank you for the comments. Yes it is sad, it is for a poetry competition on here, 'Poe in the style of Plath' So i brought the dark of both poets into the emotion and alliteration of plath style. I dont like constructing poetry but i thought i would have a go, after the first line, it just came flooding in. nice to hear from youxx
