My kids were sometimes naughty, my kids were sometimes bad
but I still had to love them, because I was their dad
they would fight and argue, that was just amongst themselves
but they would back each other, if it came to someone else
as the years have hurried by, I’ve watched them grow with pride
each carving their place in the world, and never step aside
To defend what they believed in, in their daily work and play
and I hope I helped to teach them that, somewhere along the way
Then grandchildren came along, and perhaps my kids now know
that trying to be a parent, is learning as you go
to try and teach them values, far greater than your own
and hope and pray, they turn out right, once they are full grown
let them find their own way, with just a guiding hand
and hope that in the future, they will understand
that what you did was for their own good, at least that’s what I said
and for peace and quiet now and then, so I could rest my head
And now I love them more and more, not because I am their dad
because I’ve watched them grow each day, and know the pride I’ve had
to watch them working through it all, and see what they’ve become
the world can see how proud I am, of my three daughters, and my son.
