In days gone by, people said the pipe cleaner or the black wandering man with shackles and dirty brushes When he arrived at the house in Grand Street number seventeen A small boy opened the door He stood wide-eyed and measuring the big black-clad scary man who smiled with unusually white teeth in a dirty face Chains and brushes forged from steel he wore "Hi, do you remember me from last year ?" "No, the boy said but the priest has told a lot about you on Sundays at the church"

A terrific poem, Anne-Lise. Your ending is speculative with ambiguity galore. Is the chimney sweeper as ominous as he seems? Is the little boy in peril or is the meeting innocent? A grand posting. Congratulations! Brian

- A little boy has many fantasies, Brian ... the priest's words about the devil have scared him ... maybe he had disobeyed ... who knows :) ?:) ... thanks for reading and your comment :) - hugs

Mary Poppins comes to mind, a movie I never tire to watch every year. Great twist at the end. I loved it, dear sweet Anne Lise.
