Exhaust filled alleyways cracked and torn the wide green parks frail and worn The factories spew out toxins day and night winding through the air and blinding my sight Paint me a picture of petals on flowers as childhood mica and the glory was ours 14.05.2023 Anne-Lise Andresen Copyright © All Rights Reserved

I had to look up Mica, a metallic material which contains reactive element metals like potassium, lithium and aluminium, then I remembered they used it for non-stick pans! Smog a lethal haze-The US reduced smog in the 70’s when the Clean Air Act Amendment passed and established air quality standards, I think that’s when our factories moved to China. Great reminder and Bitesize, Anne-Lise, b0l

For me, media loves painting a grim picture. Always forecasting our end, I lived in many cities across the USA. Man is grim. Killing each other~ A culture of death. I never saw ugly …it exists in the soul. I disagree with the premise but none these, it does not matter. The …The poem is well done as the image. Excellent. Pangie

A scene you often find in big cities Anne. Best move I made 30 odd years ago was moving to the countryside. Good luck in the contest. Tom

I like the touch of aspiration and hope in this line: Paint me a picture of petals on flowers...

Pretty grim imagery, Anne. The innocence is gone.

It's sad to think such places exist, but there are far more than we dare imagine. A stark reminder that we should be grateful for the light in our lives instead of dark alleyways.
