Unleashed

I seldom make promises --
man of my word, promises
leave no wiggle room…

and, most of us, at least
occasionally, like a good
wiggle

test our physical and
mental ranges for gyration --

In fact, on deeper analysis,
nothing really is ever stationary --
not time nor space

the closest thing to Perpetual-still
being the human heart, refusing
to give up on love, despite Love’s
independent nature~ its downright
heartbreaking propensity, to sniff
and wander, like a puppy, slipping
out the front door, unleashed….

Love this piece, Joe. That comparison of love to an unleashed puppy is both tender and spot-on—restless, curious, and often beyond control. And that line about the heart being the closest thing to “Perpetual-still”… beautifully put. Thought-provoking from start to finish.

promises are fragile, slippery things, aren't they. I don't make promises either, for I know circumstances can change making my promise impossible to keep. I liked: In fact, on deeper analysis, nothing really is ever stationary -- not time nor space I also liked the puppy-dog metaphor. wishing you a pleasant week. Sara

- Our words are the only personal possessions that have any value - We must remember the disappointment we inflict on others when we break a promise, Joe :) - A well written poem :) - hugs
