Umbrella Uplifted, Full of Rain

Dipped my umbrella
Full of your vows and my fears
I skipped across the laketop
Dipped, rinsed them both out,
Had to decide if ‘I do’
I ran off from the altar

And let the sweet lake,
Friend without expectations
Cascade onto my shoulders
And wash out my hair
Wash out my fear of living
Remind me of our dreams, love

I will not be back
I, of the fey, and you, man
The forest grasses my home
I have run away
I, to return to my house
That nests among the flowers

And yet I loved you
Dreamed all our dreams in your arms
And hoped for days together
But I and others
Who whispered of sweet meadows
Called me back! Wherefore, I go!

Well, it is not autobiographical, you see! I was just inspired by the contest picture. My true regret, is that my wife died 2 years ago. We had a wonderful 25-year marriage and then I lost her in August 2017. I suppose the sadness comes from that, but she did NOT want to leave, so I do not really identify with the jilted husband, no. Thanks for your kind words.

Oh, thank you! It just came, when I saw the picture for Joseph May's contest. This beautiful girl in a wedding dress, running across the water with an umbrella full of rain. You should enter!
