Pause Between Summer and Autumn

Summer sighs ~ she pauses to gaze on days
When sunlight drips from feathery birch leaves
Whispering of growing large, ripening,
Enchantress turns maize to fields of spun gold
She sways in rhythms of pregnant harvests
Only seen in dreams of the equinox.

As white clouds gather, like storms in waiting,
She gathers new bluebirds in her warm heart
Singing with their harmonies as light fades,
Like that comma of stillness in between
Daylight and dawn, she savors this moment
Before autumn plants frost upon her blush.

Dear sweet Sam, sorry I missed your POTD. This is such an engrossing poem about the interlude between summer and autumn. Sorry, these days, I have missed many of your sweet poems, never deliberate but due to lack of time. Both summer and autumn, I love. Now we are having our rainy season here which I rather hate. Your description of autumn as an 'enchantress who spuns maize to fields of spun gold' is so very catchy and lovely. Altogether a sweet poem which well deserves the honor of POTD. Congratulations dear friend.

A very good flow of empathy, to my estimation Sam..You manage to penetrate as far as any can the indefinite division between what can be Seen and what whispers to our inner spirit.' So My limited analysis for what its worth.'

Dear Sam, Congrats on POTD. Reading it made me want to stand barefoot in the grass, watching the last of summer slip away while pretending I could keep her here a little longer. But knowing you, you’d probably just wink at autumn and say, “Your turn.” Loved it, my friend you’ve got the magic touch with seasonal goodbyes. Blessings, Dear Sam, Daniel

' Summer sighs, she savors this moment before autumn plants frost upon her blush. ' So true. When she blinks, it is the next season already. It seems to happen so quickly. Autumn is a beautiful time, indeed. Congratulations Sam, on Poem of the Day. Many wonderful blessings to you. :) Hugs, Brandy

Hi Beryl! I always want to hold onto this time of year, pause and delight in the blessings of summer. We have had a very cool summer but it looks as if we may get a few days of warmth which I love. I know many have had a very hot summer and look forward to fall with shorter days and cooler temperatures! Hope you are having a wonderful summer! Blessings!!
