I Know Why I Sit Here

i know why i sit here
before this blank canvas
amidst the arena of his scattered paints
those lines now barely visible
soon explode into colors
scapes where i escape
that is why i sit here
staring at the canvas
here is the silence
here is where the wordless artist reveals
what is not there, is
here i am left with my simple needs
to sit and grasp, understand
what is, is
what is not, is not
and today i cannot remember
just exactly where in the dictionary
i left that word

this is why God created the artist
to remove writes block from poets
who lives next door
but do not tell them that
artists believe a picture is worth
a thousand words or more
any poet will tell you this is nonsense
i came here looking for one word
and i found it here
in the silence with the artist

Dear Timothy, I am enthralled by the textured, museful finesse of your poetic pen! I adore the contemplative contrast drawn here between a visual and a word artist. I especially admired; "and today i cannot remember / just exactly where in the dictionary / i left that word" - wow! and also; "artists believe a picture is worth / a thousand words or more / any poet will tell you this is nonsense / i came here looking for one word /and i found it here / in the silence with the artist. Indeed, your splendid poetry is rich and inspiring! Warmest wishes, my friend.. ~Susan

thank you Susan, and your comment says much as to why we are here amidst beloved colleagues....as i am devoted to the beauty of your lunar observations, you strike deep into me....the beloved state of lunacy....such as Li Bai (701-762) drowned while embracing the moon’s reflection on the Yangtze River....it is beautiful and our jewel to embrace

i often would sit there with him watching each brush stroke, his command of attention with each canvas....imagine a balcony with a vista of coconut trees swaying in the wind coming off the ocean as dolphins play in the waves and the air filled with pelicans and magnificent frigates lost in a soar, sky filled with wings

ah, I love your beautiful mind, and I know it is of great sadness when the genius misplaces a word. Tell you what, the Universe at large with its big cupped caring hands is saving them for you, and one day they will be returned to you, and to your surprise, the artist and the poet will be having a beer beneath the canopy of night, with the stars spangling and cheering you on. Sending love prayers and heart ties, so you don't fly away too soon :)
