Notes About The Poem

Contest: 2023 in One to Three Short Lines

Tragedy

Tragedy (Sijo)

On impulse I reacted to frenzied screams, shrill calls for help;
Ran towards the blazing house where flames rose high, but all in vain…
A sudden wave of nostalgia sustains my reminiscence.

Exactly, Eileen. A short poetry form such as this one allows the reader freedom to surmise and glean what is hidden between the lines. Thank you for stopping by. Hugs // paul

Dear Paul, my long lost poet friend, your shining presence and poetry have been sorely missed. Your vivid sensory and emotional imagery is harrowing. Your last line is a poignant finale. Sometimes all we have left are our memories. I appreciate the desperation and sadness revealed in the beauty of your impactful brevity. I hope all is well with you and yours, my dear friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Hello dear Susan. I'm afraid nowadays our paths do not cross as much as we'd like them to, but we both know that life is often bringing us new challenges which we just cannot ignore. ~ Thank you for stopping by with lovely comments which I truly appreciate. I hope you and your loved ones are keeping well. As for your writing, keep on spinning straw into gold :) Warm regards and hugs, my friend // paul

Thank you, Jan. I'm trying to get back slowly into the groove. And yes, I would like Soup administration to take a more professio0nal attitude by providing proper guidlines for different poetry forms; unfortunately we tend to follow blindly unless we seek help elsewhere. ~ Hugs and regards to all at home // paul

Dear Paul, its always good to read your profound work, gives me an idea on how to do these forms properly too. And i felt like through your well crafted words i saw this tragedy unfold. Sometimes those tragic moments remain imprinted within our mind and subconsciously too we react, and this depicts that so very well. I love the sudden twist too in the last line. Pleasure reading your work dear paul. Its a fave for me definitely. Sending you light always. Best wishes for the contest
