That Terrible Raging Tempest

I hate tempests, unless I'm cosy in bed.....by poet

The tempest raged around the lighthouse
I was the sentinel of the place, hoping the lights flashed.
Unfortunately, it provided me with very little shelter.

Outside, wild waves pounded the rugged rocks.
Some stinging sleet fell piling up on the ledges,
Penetrating the broken wide wind-broken windows.

Nothing to do but wait till all will be over.
It took some time, and I could not phone my wife.
She would always imagine something bad would take place.
Nothing to do but hope and pray.

Three hours later, I was home and thoroughly drenched.
My bewildered wife looked at me, wondering.
She pushed me under the shower, removed my wet clothes.
Then came warm pyjamas and coffee laced with some alcohol,
Her hopes had weathered fears, her love complete.

They say we are stronger after the storm.. we should all be like a lighthouse, still standing strong after so many... as adversity makes us stronger... Great poem my friend..

Love the tempest raging around the lighhouse - hoping the lights flashed! …broken windows, pounding waves then comes the comfort of home. As always excellent writing!

Dearest Victor, what a beautifully told story — full of raw atmosphere and quiet resilience. You painted the storm so vividly I could feel the cold sleet and crashing waves. But what truly touched me was the gentle warmth at the end—your wife’s love a beacon stronger than the lighthouse itself. A heartfelt and moving piece, my friend. Good luck in the contest

Great poem . It makes me think of calling in a well being check last night for a friend who I couldn't reach. I am a worrier with things like that. Thankfully, it was due to a broken phone. Take care :)

Tempests are so destructive, the best place to be is indoors, thankfully your poem had a happy ending. Good luck Victor.. Tom
