Notes About The Poem

Reading the Future

The lass came to consult in the darkening gloaming,
Shyly, she knocked on the frosted window
Of the gypsy’s cabin. She was sick with trepidation,
As she was ushered into the musty, decrepit room.

The crystal globe on the table seemed opaque.
Unpredictable how things came fearsomely to a head.
The globe cleared momentarily and became luminous.
Intimidating hums and aha followed this,
As if all has been quickly but ominously revealed.

The gypsy fortune teller’s voice was full of pathos,
“I see a young, valiant man guiding you into a shop.
Armed men entered to steal what they could.
Someone fired a shot. The young man protected her.
He died on the spot.” All this she saw in the globe.

The young lass vowed she’d never enter into any shop,
But the gypsy assured her that she would do so.
The future cannot in any way be changed. It was immutable.
The lass left; sure, she would be melancholy for evermore.

2) I think i was (humbly ) a cild of God with some Christian mystic gifts to age edifying Our Most Holy Lord & what she read that day was “*Hands off this one!” One event i felt w/quiet inner voice that changed my life). “God is our sun and shield.”

As I wrote to Woody, this poem is fantasy and fiction. Not to be believed. I am a child of God and I believe only in Him and no one else. Poetry is only a diversion and I write just unbelievable stories.

A real spooky story, well told. I did have my palm read at a carnival when I was a young boy. Not to know the future -- She was cute!

Another excellent poem. The future, it is true, is already written. The problem is that people who are paid to tell the future, are often scams. I'd tell the lass to find the man, but don't go into the shop.

Dear victor, one of those poems that made me read twice, its sad that so many follow such advice and seek guidance from humanbeings that claim to know better while they don't. Very well written poem, i like the descriptive nature of your word weaving here. As always your storytelling is also engaging and powerful it is. Pleasure reading your poem, sending you light always

Eerie mysteries verse. We have fortune tellers’ places around Houston but never had a mood to have my palms read. What will be will be. Enjoyed reading my friend.

Quite a forboding verse Victor, imagine being told someone bad was going to happen and you couldn't do anything about it. I'd rather not know, what will be will be. Tom

So many metaphorical layers and profound meanings in your poem Victor. Although the future is the product of our hard working minds and our ability to understand it.

I don’t venture into the future expected in a crystal ball, forbidden by the word of God. To do such is to reach for demonic forces. I’m content at what God will reveal by His Holy Spirit. God bless!

Gypsys tramps and thieves... Oh wait! Nevermind. Never enter a fortune tellers' lair is the lesson here, I think. Only true prophecy is found in God's word, the Bible. Interesting poem Vic
