empathy

I think of all these people, who will land in the emergency room
That night,
I think of all those who think of suicide as we open
A door,
I think of very old dogs walking around knowing
that they will die,
I think of the poets who are alone and doubt their poetry,
I think of people who have friends only on a screen
of television,
I think of all those who depend on health care,
To the old men lying on their beds in the Saint Thomas residence,
I think of all those who will learn a death in the day,
To the artists who want to flee their country,
To the orphans who seek parents who no longer exist,
I think of all the lovers abandoned, who live only with a ghost,
To the young people who seek violence so as not to doubt,
I understand their despair, and say to them:
“ Feel free to share your misfortune”

Some deep thoughts you are having. So many of older people have to go through such hard times before death comes. Your work brought about a whisper of Thanksgiving to my lips because I am so blessed in so many ways. Sara K

Your poem thoughtfully explores the theme of human suffering, isolation, and the deep, often unspoken struggles faced by many people in society. It captures a wide range of emotional experiences, from the physical and mental pain of those in emergency rooms or contemplating suicide, to the quiet loneliness of poets doubting their work, and the alienation of people connecting only through screens. The poem’s simple, yet profound structure highlights how suffering can be universal, but also deeply personal.

thnaks So, for the very thoughtful comment, suffering is personal, and every on bear a cross, sometimes we need to be selfish too, cross is too heavy for one person, it is so unversal as you said, thanks for posting enjoy your week end

Dear yann, this poem I felt so deeply, sometimes i think of all that too and sometimes i grasp the energy of all those suffering and it can also make me really sad and down, so being an empath is not easy, and having empathy, yes can be difficult but we need it too more, in this very cold world! What a beautiful heart you have! So kind! Stay blessed! Sending you light always

Brilliant ending to a poem that asks so many questions. I only fear Maltese hospitals. I'd rather die than end there.

One endowed with empathy alone will be able to think of his unfortunate brethren. Others don't care a hoot about others as long as they are comfortable and their needs are met. Dear Yaan, always keep a compassionate heart as you have now.

- Many of us can probably feel a sense of hopelessness - Empathy is an important building block of morality - Every day we hear about war and terrorist attacks in many places around the world - It is good to share your thoughts with others, and to put them into words - Life is difficult for many and we are entering a time where love should be high on the list - hugs

Your lists are always interesting. As we grow older, and some in their youth, know many in these situations. “that night” “a door” “the poets who are alone” …love the final two lines…you understand and invite them to share. I pray with people at church on Sundays. We see a sea of faces and can have no idea what they are facing. Blessings ~ Kim
