Trampled Hearts

Buffalo stomp on trampled hearts. The beaten earth stirs up dust lingering in the eyes of those who watch. The show is just starting to begin. Mangled men rise from their ashes dancing in an open field, their chant begins. Buffalo circle searching for new souls the chant must quicken the men must…

A center piece for the world, a fire burning brightly, leaves no coals. The sun sets on tonight’s odd prairie, where entranced men spin and angry buffalo smash hearts at will. Shadows are cast revealing memories, memories of the sun over due. The madness holds no end in sight. Buffalo and men roam together in hopeless plight. The sun has left the east and now sits in the west. Onward they must go through the plains of Colorado, to the Flint Hills of Kansas. In the morning a surprised river city meets manic men and beast wallowing in the streets. To their disbelief suddenly these men and buffalo are just like them with jobs, with worries, with wealth, with pain, with security, with doubt.

The trance men always questioned their formidable transformation, wondering how they walked to a new era. The river people never bothered to question; it simply just was for them. As for the buffalo, their numbers shrank. Families torn apart, killed for sport, left to rot. Never again would the great buffalo stomp on trampled hearts.
