SUPERGIRL AND THE MONUMENT TO SUPERMAN (Part One)

AT THE DAILY PLANET IN METROPOLIS

“Clark I want you and Jimmy Olsen to fly to Montana to cover an interesting story. There was an explosion near a small lake. Apparently, most of the water evaporated in a massive release of heat. Local residents think that the explosive sound came from a huge meteorite breaking apart in the lake. A number of people noticed a flaming ‘ball’ shooting across the skyline. An affiliate news station, KKRA Metro News, called me last night to give me some details. Take a flight out of Metropolis by midnight.” Perry White sank back into his black leather chair and took another draw from his cigar.

“Perry, I still have a few assignments which are nearly complete. Would you like Lois to finish the stories for me? One story is very, very interesting and it involves the unexplained anomalies found in deep space by the Keck Observatory on Mount Haleakala, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Apparently, there were two simultaneous supernovas.” Clark Kent placed a folder on Perry White’s desk, which contained photos and the official transcripts from the astronomers.

“Look Clark, I know that story has taken up most of your time. I’ll have Lois and her assistant, Jane Woodall, finish the story. You and Jimmy need to pack your things from home, and take the equipment which STAR LABS loaned to The Daily Planet. Hurry now, this story is too important.”

“Sure Perry, I’ll be leaving with Jimmy by eight or nine o’clock this evening.” Clark left Perry’s office to gather his computer, note book, and the pass card to the Secured Equipment room where STAR LABS’ Sonic Register was located. He then headed to the International News department where Lois Lane worked.

“Clark, hey babe…what are you up to? Got a lot going on here.” Lois smiled at her steady beau, Clark Kent.

“Hi Lois, I need to head out to Montana to cover a story on an exploding meteorite which evaporated most of a local lake. Perry would like you to finish the story on the strange anomalies observed by the deep space telescope in Hawaii.”

“Clark, honey, I’ve got so much work here. Terrorists in Paris, and the attack on the orphanage in Indonesia. Can’t you finish the story when you get back?” Lois pursed her lips.

“It’s a very, very important story. Lois I’ll take you to Chez Michel’s if you’ll do the story for me. At least three times, at a minimum. Promise.” Clark placed a different folder on Lois’ desk.

“Cla-a-ark…it might be a deal if you’ll help me with my Indonesia story.” Lois smiled with a grin.

“I’ll try honey.” Clark headed for the elevator and to the Secured Equipment room.

MEANWHILE ON PLANET CRUSEX

“Xc]y**^…::[*/….” [Translation, “The alien on planet Earth…we are ready to mate.]

The crystalline feline aliens wanted to blend their genetic coding with Superman, in order to create a master race into the deepest reaches of the universe. And to therefore stand unimpeded to any and all beings.

“Queen Ursa, if the earthling named “Superman” ever finds out that the two exploding stars were caused by the detonation of our Star Destroyer he might suspect that an alien race was behind it.” Tanthorus was the military leader on Crusex.

“He will never find out since Earth does not have the technology to detect our involvement.” Queen Ursa motioned for the chief of genetic coding and bio-massing to ready the equipment for the mating of Superman’s fluids to theirs.

“Tell the officers of the Pod Ships to make ready for planet Earth. And make certain the meteorites which we are averting in space to hit the planet are increased. I want their cities and people to be destroyed.” Queen Ursa stood tall before her crystalline sisters.

ON A PLANETOID NAMED GENTILNAH

“Zora, you may be the only humanoid in our world, but aren’t we enough? All of the animals and plant life on this planetoid love you. Why aren’t you happy anymore?” A super intelligent animal, which resembled a wolf on the Earth, nuzzled against the superwoman’s thigh. His name was Alexhahn.

“Alexhahn, I just want to be with my people. The supers are my family. I know that I must stand as a sole sentry on this planetoid and watch for any threat to our world. But, I am so lonely at times despite the wonderful friendships that I have here on Gentilnah.” Zora stroked Alexhahn’s thick coat of fur.

“Are you still wondering about your cousin on planet Earth?” The ‘wolf’ cocked his head sideways.

“I understand that on that planet he stands as an invincible force, and that he is loved by all mankind.” Zora looked wistfully at the beautiful stars.

“Would you like to go there sometime?”

“Perhaps, if my people would allow me a brief intermission on my assignment.” Zora smiled weakly.

“Zora, we all love you here, and we do not want you to leave us.”

“The elements have been my family for over five years. But the supers are my truest family. I am a humanoid. My cousin is among humans which are much like the super humanoids.” Zora stood up in this ‘Garden of Eden’ completely naked.

AT METROPOLIS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

“Jimmy, I just received news that four meteorites hit. Extremely large meteorites. One near the coastline of Japan near Tokyo, one in the desert near the Ivory Coast, and two in Australia. One of the meteorites in Australia destroyed a city block outside of Perth.” Clark immediately called Lois.

“Hello, Lois? You have to find out about the two supernovas in space. As much as possible, get the astronomers and analysts with Space Technologies to find some answers.”

“Clark, honey, why the rush?”

“Lois, four extremely large meteorites have hit Earth. All within the last three days. I need to find out what the connection is with the large meteorite in Montana and the four across the globe.”

“Okay. I’ll do as you say. Why didn’t I hear about the meteorites?”

“News just came in within the last two hours. Bye sweetheart.” Clark and Jimmy were about to board the plane.

AT KECK OBSERVATORY ON MOUNT HALEAKALA, HAWAII

“Professor Murphy, your conclusions are too illusory. I don’t agree that the supernovas were caused by a core-collapse of the massive stars. The cataclysmic explosions of the core implosions were not just coincidental. The explosions appeared to have been timed. Only five minutes passed between the two supernovas. How do you explain that?” Colonel Art Richards with Space Technologies worked in conjunction with STAR LABS and was aware that other alien beings existed in the universe, apart from Superman.

“Colonel Richards, even if I agree with your preliminary findings, I as a chief astronomer must base my conclusions on what we astronomers know. I respect your standing with Space Technologies, and I know that STAR LABS deals with alien technologies, but I stand firmly with my own conclusions.”

“This is pure madness.” Colonel Richards walked past the bank of computers to the secured phone line.

LAUNCHED POD SHIPS FROM PLANET CRUSEX

“****[…^^^…*][….” [Translation, “Thirty more asteroids have been averted to planet Earth. The earlier ones landed as large meteorites. Eighteen asteroids are nearly two miles in size. Prepare the Interstellar Communicator.”] Commander Tanthorus made her way to the quarters of Doctor Alio, chief of genetic coding.

“Alio, when the earthlings start dying in large numbers, this ‘Superman’ will come to us. Most assuredly.” Tanthorus looked at the genetic mapping, and knew that their super-race would be impregnable even against the Supreme Intelligences in the galaxies of Cairox and Laylox.

“Commander, we need to have Superman’s fluids ready for blending within ten hours. Or else the effort is in vain.” Alio waved her crystalline tail over her shoulder, which was a sign of deep concern.
