The Figure

It was very dark and stormy when Dustin decided to take a drive. He had been craving a pack of Skittles all day. Dustin glanced at the clock.

"11:03" Dustin read aloud.

He knew his mom was asleep, so he grabbed his keys very quietly and left.

About two miles into the drive, Dustin saw a tall, slenderfigure standing in the middle of the road. Dustin abruptly hit his brakes. Skrrt. Anyone could hear the tires a mile away. Dustin's head jerked back. When he glances back up, the figure is gone.

"What was that?" Dustin asked himself shakely. He looked around but saw nothing except trees. He drove away thinking it was his imagination.

Dustin pulled into the Circle K parking lot at 11:21. He walked in, acknowledged the cashier, then went to find the Skittles.

"1.21" the cashier said flately. Dustin handed him the money.

"Thank you." Dustin replied friendly. He walked out of the store then froze. In the middle of the street stood s tall, slender man. Almost identical to the one he saw just earlier. Dustin backed into the store, not taking his eyes off the figure.

"Do you see that? Dustin questioned fearfully.

"Yeah. What is it?" The cashier asked, not knowing what the situation was.

"I don;t know, but it's coming closer Dustin stated nervously.

The figure was walking into the gas station parking lot. As he got under the canopy, each light turned off when he went under them.

"Lock the door!" The casier whispered quickly. Dustin jumped up. He locked the door just before the figure got there. All you could see was a smirk on the figure’s face. The figure got all the way up to the door. He put his hand on the door handle. Dustin and the cashier glanced worriedly at each other.

The figure jiggled the handle, looked at Dustin, smiled, the started off around the building.

“ Is there a back door?” Dustin asked, frustrated.

“What?” the cashier dumbfoundedly questioned.

“Is there a back door?” He asked more clearly.

“Yeah. Right back there,” but they were too late. The back door opened and in came the mysterious figure. The figure walked slowly towards them. It walked past Dustin, and stopped right in front of the cashier. He looked up, shuddered, then quickly looked back down. There was a flash of lightning, and both the cashier and the figure were gone.

“Where did they go?” Dustin thought aloud. He ran to his car, grabbed his phone, and dialled 9-1-1.

“9-1-1. What’s your emergency?” The lady on the phone questioned.

“I’m at Circle K on Walnut. The cashier has been kidnapped.” Dustin exclaimed.

“Ok sir. Officers are on route to your location. Their ETA is four minutes,” she said monotonely.

Dustin waited anxiously, then finally heard the sirens a few minutes later. Three police cars pulled in, and two officers stepped out of each car. The canopy lights still hadn’t come on, so the officers had flashlights. Three officers set up police tape, two questioned Dustin, and the other one tried to call his mother.

“Aye Chief! No answer from the mother.” One of the officers said very annoyingly. He had been smacking his gum, which Dustin found very irritating.

“How old are you?” The chief asked Dustin, looking very concerned.

“Just turned 17 a couple days ago, sir.” Dustin replied innocently.

“Hey! I found a camera.” a different officer yelled.

“We’ll be right back.” the chief told Dustin. The officers walked into the store. Ten minutes of freezing agony, the officers came back out.

“We have good news, and bad news.” the officer told Dustin as they walked very slowly, “We know not to count you as a suspect, but we have a creepy kidnapper on the loose.”

The lights to the gas station went out suddenly.

“Hello?” Dustin asked, but no one was there. Then a few seconds later the lights came back on. The officers, police cars, and police tape were gone. Dustin jumped into his car and then drove away.

He thought about his mom at home by herself, so he decided to go there. He had no interruptions up until he got to his driveway.

Right in the middle of his driveway stood the figure. Dustin sat there. He had a worrisome look on his face. Dustin pushed on the gas, but the figure didn’t move. So Dustin drove. The figure moved out of the way very quickly. Dustin didn’t care. He jumped out of his car, left it on, ran in his house, and yelled for his mom.

“Mom? Mom? Are you okay?” Dustin called hopelessly.

“Dustin? What’s wrong?” his mom asked sleepily.

“There is a weird, creepy figure following me around, and making everyone I talk to disappear.,” Dustin stated in one breath. The front door opened then slammed shut. Dustin’s mother got up with a worried expression on her face. The figure stopped right in front of Dustin’s mother.

“Why are you here? We agreed on age 18.” Dustin's mother yelled.

"Seems like you didn't hold up your end of the deal." The figure said smirkingly.

"What's going on, mom?" Dustin asked angrily, " Who is that?"

"It doesn't matter, Dustybun." Dustin's mother replied nervously.

"A few years back, as a matter of fact, 17 years and 9 months ago, your mother and I had a deal, that if I help her run away from an abusive relationship, I could have get her first born whenever he was 18." The figure started happily knowing he was causing pain to Dustin's mother.

"M-m-mom? Is that true?" Dustin asked, quivering.

"I'm sorry Dustin. I tried running, but it looks like he found us," Dustin' s mom was crying. She started to plead with the figure. "Please don't take my son!"

"If you would have held up your end of the bargain," the figure said grinning, "We could have made a deal."

"Please!" she pleaded once more, but the light suddenly went out. Dustin and the figure were gone.
