The Earth-Hum- Chapter 1

Chapter 1

The Child

The child was useless for Derek. His birth had killed his precious wife Zulu. And if that was not enough, even the sight of the child was most peculiar. It had neither ears nor nose. Its eyes were tiny beads of black and its lips were just two thin lines of black. But most of all, he was wholly blue and green.

Just looking at its Earth-like face made Derek fume. It was then that he took a decision on which, he did not know the future of the world depended- he decided to give the child to Nile, consoling himself that he was just repaying the gift it had given his country.

He went on to execute this plan of his two days later, after his wife's funeral. He drove over to Nile, put the little one on a huge strong leaf and let it float away.

*************************

She saw it as a leaf floating on the river, a rather normal thing. But then she saw the blue patches with the green. The Nile Goddess was curious and descended on the Earth to see what it was.

At first she was curious to see the creature but after really having done so, she fell ' in the depths of despair'. What to do with this child, she wondered. Then lightening struck and she exclaimed in delight for she knew who would care for the child........ Mother Earth.

Off she went to pay her a visit and give her the little beauty.

**************************

Mother Earth was ecstatic to see the cute little thing. She profusely thanked Nile and then started playing with the baby. Than she got an idea.

"It looks so like the Earth, his face. I'll make it an Earth."

She, with her magical powers, collected all the green from his little body and took it up to his face. Then she granted him two boons-

First, the power to look like the Earth and second to be able to change seasons anywhere in the world.

It after all this Mother Earth thought something was still missing. The she got it a name!

A sweet little name for the little earth. She named him Ligogi, Greek for little earth.

Soon Ligogi was playing in his own little cradle in his own little room. This room had a season painted on all four walls. There were two huge almirahs always ready for use. A mirror to show you any place in the world.

What more could a child want?
