The Commercial Driver

Big Boy Dave Rex a former radio announcer on the Delta Diner frequency channel was out of the money and no longer listed on the menu price board. Feeling down leaving the franchise restaurant he zipped the windbreaker trying to catch some warmth.

Opening a car door, a tail wagging dog welcomed him back, “it’s getting nippy Red,” he told the chestnut four-legged friend who happily greeted him. “you probably want this,” Dave gave him the famed tripled cheeseburger watching his faithful Irish Setter have a field day with the doggie bag.

Looking up towards the marquee Dave laughed knowing he built the brand name, “My image was the top draw in this place,” Red heard the explanation, “but it was their winning broad decision to retire the character.”

Red made a loving gesture by placing his head on Dave’s lap, “you know the famous commercial we shot on Windy Hill,” Dave claimed while Red listened, “when they had money to spend.”

“Whole thing just blew away,” Red comforted Dave during the monologue, “local papers here later wrote ‘and yet another corporate move that made them lose visibility and put them out of the money,’’

"Indicatif” Dave used the French word that served as a sign while grabbing the steering wheel, “but not before I luckily claimed my optional allowance and made you my favorite winning paddock pick.”

Now well-fed Dave headed to the interstate and instead of going south decided to change directions, “Going north to show Madison Avenue what we are still worth.”

Agreeing with the idea Red let out a bark which made both sense things were on the move.
