My Fairytale

My Fairytale

Once upon a lifetime quite a long time ago in the town of Avondalia a cute little boy was born. As babies go he was small but one grand thing about him was his cheeky smile. He smiled at everything and everybody, a happy little chappie who would one day earn the nickname of Sebastian bestowed by a doting aunt only six years older than he.

When he was about four years old the world he lived in became a troubled place and some countries wanted to take land from other people which was not theirs. A war was started and many good people were never to come home from that war. The little boys’ father was one that did not come home.

His mother who had to work was unable to look after him anymore so he was sent to live with his grandmother whose children were all his aunties and uncles. It was a fun time for youngsters even though some food items were rationed and hard to get needing food stamps. There was plenty of good plain food to eat, caring people to play with, respect and learn from.

Grandmother had a large house in Selwynia with a ballroom where once every month a dance was held and after the youngsters had been sent to bed on the upper floor the music, singing and dancing all accompanied by lots of laughter began. Being curious we younger children would watch the happenings below from the gallery veranda above. This was where a love for music and particularly swing music began and has remained with him ever since.

It was around this time he found out that his mother was really a witch without a broomstick but nevertheless a witch. She was able to charm many people into doing and providing the many things she wanted from life; all with little or no effort on her part. Eventually there was no one in the family younger or older she had not hurt in some way or other. Everyone has to pay the price for their shoddiness though not necessarily in money or chattels. Not really knowing what love, sharing and caring is all about will in the end lead to bitterness and worst of all loneliness and being left without the best gift of all, your family. The latter part of your life gazing into space and dwelling on what might have been?

Happy chappie with time on his side merrily went on with his life of schooling; sport an apprenticeship with little to divert him from his chosen path. One night he attended a dance and met this charmer for the first time whose glass slippers and everything else were a perfect fit. Little time passed before the bended knee proposal was given and accepted. Time passed and eventually the family grew to be five.

These three little delicious delights went on to experience the same wonders of growing up that their parents had survived and flourished. Eventually each met they’re own charmer with perfectly fitted slippers; settled down and lived happily ever after.
