Mother

Many years ago I used to watch a show called Lassie. It was about a farm family. The father was Paul Martin played by Hugh Reilly. The mother was Ruth Martin played by June Lockhart. The boy was Timmy played my John Provost. And of course there was a big collie named Lassie. Timmy was always getting in trouble and Lassie was getting him out. I watched the show because of June Lockhart. I always wanted her to be my mother. Not that I didn't like my mother I loved her very much. She is one of the two finest women I ever met. The other was her mother (My Grandmother.) They always say the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Lassie was a female but they always used males in the show because their coats were better. That show was on from 1958 to 1964.

A few years after that show ended June Lockhart got another roll playing another mother. This show was a takeoff of Swiss Family Robinson. It was called “Lost in Space.” The father was played by Guy Williams. The was a man on the show Called Dr. Zachary Smith. He was played by Jonathon Harris. He was a stowaway on the ship. The family was going to settle on planet in another solar system. Dr. Smith was always trying to sabotage everything. The young boy Will played by Billy Mumy and his trusty robot were always stopping Dr. Smith. The robot was always saying “Danger Will Robinson.” That show ran from 1965 to 1968.

It was not a very good show. The only reasons I watched it was One, because June Lockhart was the mother and two, There was a young teenager on there I really liked. Her name was Angela Cartwright. I saw he first on “Make Room for Daddy.” I was crazy about her.

June Lockhart is still alive, she is 95 as of this writing. They wanted Billy Mumy to play Pugsley Addams but his parents refuse because of all the make up invovled.

I remember and loved that show. I think the theme song had a boy calling his dog, Lassie.
